How to use OpenStreetMap instead of Google Maps

OpenStreetMap is a collaborative project to create a free editable geographic database of the world.

Step By Step Instruction

Step 1: Open the website via the official link

And sign up to the website by filling out the sign-up form.

Apply some terms and conditions, tick the checkboxes and proceed with continuing.

After that, for verification purposes they send you the verification link on your registered email ID, just click on it for verifying your email address.

Now, you will be redirected to this page below..

Step 2: Search in the search box

In order to find some location of particular city or country. In the top left corner, you will see the search box, just type the name of the place or country and press the “Go” button.

It will be showing the geographical location in a very nice way with annotations. Here we can zoom in and zoom in and the places and as much as we zoom in it will start showing the location in very detailed and local locations.

In the above image, we can see the result as we type “America” in the search box, it will show in this way where we have eight options.

  1. - Zoom in
  2. - Zoom out
  3. - Show my location: As you allow location, it will start showing your current location on the map.
  4. - Map Layers: In this, it has many options to view the map like standard, CyclOSM, cycle map, transport map, etc…
  5. - Map Key
  6. - Share: you can share your location or particular location with others.
  7. - Add a note to the map: In a certain location if you want to note something.
  8. - Query features.

Step 3: Find the location between two points

If you want to go someplace or want to see the root or direction between two places, then press the arrow symbol right to the “Go” button, and then you will be seeing like below snapshot.

Enter the From and To place names also select the path options from the drop-down.
